Greetings spiritual viewers
and welcome to
Enlightening Entertainment.
Today we will be
meeting with fine artist
Mr. Gregory Gioiosa,
a distinguished painter
with a unique vision
of resonating
with the nontangible
spiritual realm.
Mr. Gregory Gioiosa is
from California, USA.
He holds a Master’s degree
of Fine Arts
from the University
of California, Irvine.
Mr. Gioiosa’s works
has been continuously
showcased in galleries
throughout
the United States and are
in permanent collection
in several art museums
as well as
individual collections
throughout the world.
He is the recipient
of numerous awards,
and was one of 44 artists
selected for inclusion in
“New American Paintings,”
a publication
dedicated to fascinating
emerging artists.
His works invite viewers
connect with the universe
and with themselves.
Well, I think I can go back
to when I was young.
I always knew
that art was something
that I was going
to pursue in,
in my adulthood.
I was very drawn
to the materials
when I was young.
I was always active
in any type of art
that was taking place
in the school.
When it really started
to take off and really
start to manifest itself
was when I was
in graduate school.
My last year
in graduate school,
I had a professor that
he really motivated me
and he gave me
the confidence
to express myself
on a large scale,
which for me,
that was very influential
at the time, because
as far as my spirit,
it was always
built up inside me.
It was just a matter
of now bringing it out.
Like many
with a spiritual calling,
Mr. Gioiosa had a vision
at a specific time
in his life that
essentially would change,
or perhaps further,
his perception of reality.
It started in 1991
when my wife and I
moved to Los Angeles.
We had a loft
and at the upper part
of the loft, we had a bank
of windows
that were open access
and our bed was
on the same level.
One evening, I was awoken
from a sleep state
and I would look out
into the windows and
I was seeing this imagery
that I couldn't explain.
Very abstract,
in the window.
I didn't take it seriously
at the time.
But that kept on
reoccurring
and reoccurring.
So I talked to my wife
about it; she said,
“Well maybe you should
start journaling it,
start drawing it out,
and write about
what you're seeing.”
So that started
the whole process for me
and I started doing that,
explaining
what I experienced,
and it seemed to
take on a life of its own.
Very interesting.
Now the visuals that
you started drawing out,
do those graphic elements
appear in
some of your artwork?
Oh yes,
most definitely they do.
Were they symbols?
What do they
represent to you?
Well,
through the experiences,
part of the things
that were rather apparent
was that I was looking
into something
that was not of this realm.
And that
what I was looking into
was this incredible
harmony that takes place.
That was something that
I've never experienced
in my life.
The way
in which the objects
that I was seeing moved,
it was lyrical.
It was lyrical.
I think my work, I hope
it is able to open up
the pathways and avenues
for people to experience
their inner soul.
It’s that inherent radiance
that we all have
within us, and
for whatever reasons that
that may be closed off
at the time, I’m hoping that
the work and the imagery
that I use opens that up
for an individual,
and they’re able to
connect with that.
Have a self-realization
of self, and then,
how that self relates
to the world around them,
and how that self relates
to the nontangible world,
which I feel
my work represents.
The non-tangible universe
is that it’s not specific.
It’s purely about love.
It’s purely
about joy and goodness
and being able to
have harmony.
Gregory’s
creative artwork aspires
to transport viewers
to this other realm where
beauty and harmony meet.
It operates in
a physical consciousness,
and it also operates
in the nonphysical,
the nonlinear.
A space where time,
in my own perception,
does not exist.
Everything flows
in harmony and beauty.
Beauty beyond belief.
The more people that
have an understanding
of themselves,
or essentially
kind of a glimpse
of their transcendence,
then the ability
to look at the world
in a whole different
perspective transpires.
And that’s the people
around you.
How you treat people.
How you treat animals.
How you treat nature.
All those things
are important.
Balance is important
in the world and
I’ve always had balance
in my work.
Harmony has been
the utmost importance
in what I do.
Mr. Gioiosa
kindly introduces us
to some of the paintings
at his studio.
Title is
“Universal Equation.”
It’s mixed media
on canvas, mixed media
being acrylics, oils and
wax, and then acrylics.
My work is very much
about certain objects that
exist in physical world,
two of those being
the circle and the ellipse.
This piece is basically
about the circle
and how that circle
transcends reality.
How it is present
in the physical world
but it also is present
in the nontangible world.
These are all perceptions,
my own perceptions
that I have, so I create
a work around those
to create infinite space,
to create dimension
and time.
It also is about the idea
that we really don’t know
exactly what it may exist
outside of physicality.
But through the perception
that I have,
I’ve been creating works
that have this ability
to transcend physicality
and speak directly
right to the heart.
And I hope that by creating
the work that I do
that it gives a viewer
an opportunity to connect
directly right to the soul.
And that soul
is able to open up
and they’ll be able to
find meaning, meaning
in a lot of different ways.
Meaning in possibilities
that what exists
outside of this world
is far different
than the physical world
around us.
The nontangible world is,
there’s a certain rhythm
to it. It’s not a square,
and what I mean
by a square is that
in a physical world
we square things
by using instruments
to create space and shape
in order to build forms
within the physical world.
That’s how
we construct our world.
Outside
of the physical world,
these shapes and images
are very random,
ordered but random.
Even the most basic shape
can have so much power.
Let’s take the circle for,
for example.
I mean it’s an
inter-dimensional shape
that has the ability to
exist in both causal states
of existence.
And once that shape is used
in a random way,
it has the ability
to create space and time
and energy.
I was just talking
with one of the viewers
that came in.
And he was so impressed
by just the use
of a simple image,
how that image
used in a repetitive way
can create such energy
and how it can
draw you in, and
how it becomes familiar.
He said, “You know,
there’s something
very familiar
about that image.
And there’s something
is very familiar
when it’s used in
a random way like that.
How I’m drawn to it!
I’m drawn to it.”
So, again, it’s kind of
opening him up
and speaking directly,
directly to the heart,
directly to the soul,
for that, whoever
the individual is, to draw
from that perception
and to really look past
what the work is.
So essentially,
the work speaks past itself.
It says something
more than what it is.
What is
the title of the piece
that we’re looking at?
“Infinite Wisdom.”
(“Infinite Wisdom.”) Yes.
And what’s interesting
about this piece,
the story behind it is that,
I work in
the entertainment industry.
And these panels
are found objects.
These were laying
on the floor
in the scenic department
and they had been
burned into, certain areas.
And I was able to see
something
that was magnificent
in those pieces.
So immediately I said,
“You know,
I had to have those pieces.
I want to create
something from that.”
So we’ve got, we’ve got
found object panels
(found object panels)
and then that’s
the background, and then
you have now inscribed…
Inscribed circles
that overlap each other,
so now we’re creating
depth and space.
It’s a work at that
you have to get back,
you have to view
from a distance
because then you can see
the power of that work.
So it really says
something about,
about the universe and
how powerful it is, and
how that shape really is
a shape that has
the ability to transform,
and that’s what
so interesting about it.
I wanted
to create something
that was monochromatic
but still would have
the same power.
I was trying
to create something
that was monochromatic,
had a vibration about it,
that still would resonate
with the viewer.
Recently,
Mr. Gioiosa attended
“The Love of Centuries”
book premiere concert
celebrating the newest
poetry collection of
Supreme Master Ching Hai.
Mr. Gioiosa shared
his thoughts after
having the opportunity to
speak with guest of honor
Supreme Master Ching Hai
via videoconference,
and also seeing
an exhibition of her
Heaven-inspired artworks.
I was very, very taken back
by how beautiful her
[Supreme Master
Ching Hai’s] work is.
She’s actually designed
not only small lanterns
and things of that nature
but dresses and things
of that nature.
I feel that art
comes from spirituality.
It’s being open enough
to let in the world and
let in all the different
facets of the world.
And then you create
something from that
in order for people
to be able to
have a realization
of something in their life.
I enjoy the idea
that someone that has
that much talent that
comes through spirituality,
that she’s able to
share that with people.
We thank
Mr. Gregory Gioiosa,
for sharing
your spirituality and
special art, bringing us
to realms beyond.
May your creations
continue to remind us of
the beauty and harmony
of our universe,
as they speak to our own
Divine universe within.
