As of Wednesday, August 18, the number of eggs recalled from a period between mid-May and mid-August had reached 380 million across a total of 17 states thus far.

Federal health officials have reported receiving nearly 2,000 reports of Salmonella poisoning from May to July and are currently evaluating the number that are linked to this recall.

Salmonella symptoms are severe, with fever, intense abdominal cramps and diarrhea that appear between eight to 72 hours of eating a tainted product, and the disease can be life-threatening for those with weakened immune systems.

The form of Salmonella involved in this recall is passed among chickens that may appear healthy, with the bacteria growing inside the egg itself.

An investigation is being conducted by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor any further spread of the contamination and disease.

We pray for the soon recovery of all those affected. May more and more people find safety from such animal-borne illnesses by adopting the humane and vital plant-based diet.
