Following the recent massive US recall of nearly one million pounds of E. coli-infected beef, author and professor James E. McWilliams of Texas State University in the USA looked into claims that grass-fed cattle are less likely to contract and transmit the potentially deadly infection.
Citing one Australian study that showed a higher prevalence of E.coli in the feces of grass-fed cows, Dr. McWilliams also stated that other research found grass-fed cattle are indeed as susceptible to E. coli as those that are grain-fed.
In addition, grass-fed cows have been shown by Australian scientists to produce 20% higher greenhouse gas emissions than grain-fed. US environmental scientist Dr. Rita Schenck stated, “The take-home message is that no matter how you grow the beef, eating vegetarian is substantially better...”
Our thanks, Professor McWilliams, Dr. Schenk and all other scientists for your valued work that reveals even more hazards of meat-eating. Let us all quickly adopt the animal-free diet for optimal health and our planet’s survival.
