Today is the birthday of
the Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him.
Prophet Muhammad
was a truly great
enlightened Master and
Messenger of Allah who
lived in the 8th century.
He is remembered
especially on the
anniversary of his birth
for his great compassion,
wisdom, forgiveness,
and love for all beings.
Prophet Muhammad
was a vegetarian
who encouraged
his companions and
followers to be as well.
For this most special
occasion,
millions of Muslims
around the world gather
in their communities
to remember the birth
of Prophet Muhammad.
Celebrations take place
on this special day, which
is called Mawlid al-Nabi.
Activities range from
devoted reading of
the Qur’an, prayer,
to singing and dancing.
Here, one community
of Muslims from
various Arab countries
have gathered for
a Mawlid celebration
with a commemorative
retelling of the Prophet’s
story by children.
Peace be upon you.
Peace, mercy
and blessings of God
upon you.
We have come to
celebrate with you
the anniversary of
the Prophet's birthday,
peace be upon him.
God's blessing
and peace be upon him.
The Islamic nations
are celebrating
this great anniversary,
the anniversary of
the birth of the
most honored human of
God Almighty’s creation.
Yes, yes, that is true,
thanks God.
Let us make those who
attended the celebration
hear something about
the Prophet's birthday.
Once upon a time,
disbelief prevailed,
injustice prevailed,
hurricane winds
prevailed,
with wicked men, with
unfairness, in the deserts.
Some scholars who have
written about the story
of his birthday said:
Aminah bint Wahb
became pregnant with
the Messenger of God,
peace be upon him,
on the eve of
the first night of Rajab.
She saw then the birds
coming to pay tribute
to the one
who was in her belly.
If she came to drink
from a well, water
ascended to the top,
honoring and esteeming
the Messenger of God,
peace be upon him.
Peace be upon him.
God's blessing and peace
be upon Muhammad,
peace be upon him.
God's blessing and peace
be upon Muhammad,
peace be upon him.
God's blessing and peace
be upon Muhammad,
peace be upon him.
God's blessing and peace
be upon Muhammad,
peace be upon him.
All the prophets that
God sent are honest and
extremely intelligent.
The prophets don’t lie,
don’t cheat.
They all have
good behavior.
O Muhammad, born
in Mecca so long ago,
was the best man the
world would ever know!
Nursed by Halimah,
she watched him grow.
Raised by his uncle that
people loved him so.
Then came the angel
when he was 40.
He brought the message
full of glory.
And forgiveness is what
our Prophet shows.
Like all men do,
our Prophet had to die.
And his story brings tears
to our eyes.
But what he likes
for all of us to do is tell
his message, his message
O so true. O Muhammad!
O Allah bless him.
O Muhammad!
How we love to
praise him.
In another part of
the globe,
a Sudanese community is
also participating
in a celebration of
the noble birth of
Prophet Muhammad.
According to Sudanese
traditional customs,
they sing while feeling
joy and love for Allah.
O Allah
O Allah O Allah
O Allah O Allah
Why are you gathered
today?
In the Name of Allah,
the Most Merciful,
the Most Compassionate,
we are gathered today
to celebrate
the noble Mawlid
(birth of the Prophet).
On this occasion, which
brings people together
from all parties
and all directions,
without regard to
differences in the
political tendencies,
genetic and Sufi colors
and others,
all the Muslims celebrate
the noble birthday
of the Prophet.
We read the biography of
the Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him,
his birth and
how his life was,
his upbringing and
what he used to do.
In summary, from his life
till his passing.
This ceremony today
comes in
a typical Sudanese form.
In Sudan, our country,
we put up a tent to
celebrate, where there is
candy for the children,
and it is open
for all Muslims and
non-Muslims to share.
In Sudan, we go to the
celebration of the Mawlid
(Prophet’s birthday)
from a young age.
In this celebration,
children are very happy
that we bring candy
and distribute presents
to them.
The gathering is a nice
program for the children
and for adults to get
refreshed, God willing.
We always participate in
listening to the Madeeh
(Sufi singing) and the
revival and remembrance
of the Prophet,
peace be upon him.
By remembering
his qualities
and the kind things
that he taught us.
We sing the biography
of the Prophet,
peace be upon him,
and the teaching of
the Prophet,
peace be upon him, and
these spiritual matters
the Prophet has
brought from Allah.
We remember them
through some of the songs
that are simplified
for those who don't
understand Arabic and
don't understand
the words that are
written in the books.
Tell us about
your costume, the
meaning of the colors.
We have inherited these
clothes from our fathers
the Sheikhs and it is
a sign of humility and
closeness to Allah.
The green color is
for the dresses,
color of the inheritance
of Heaven.
Therefore, we always
imitate the angels and
the inheritance of Heaven
through these colors.
What do you remember
most about
the Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him?
The life of the Prophet
in all is full of matters
that I admire and
“you have
in the Prophet of Allah
a good example,”
this is good enough.
The life of the Prophet
invokes in me always to
remember God Almighty
and his gracious words
as in the Qur’an:“Lo!
those who say:
Our Lord is Allah, and
afterward are upright,
the angels descend
upon them, saying:
Fear not nor grieve,
but hear good tidings of
the paradise
which ye are promised.
We are
your protecting friends
in the life of the world
and in the Hereafter.
There ye will have (all)
that your souls desire,
and there ye will have
(all) for which ye pray.”
God Almighty has spoken
the truth.
Once more,
I congratulate
all the Muslims
all over the world for the
birthday of the Prophet
and we pray to Allah
to have the character of
the Prophet and
always remember
the Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him,
because the biography
of the Prophet
is love and peace.
And Allah bless you.
What do you
admire most about
the Prophet Muhammad?
I admire his kindness,
his forgiveness and
his acceptance to others.
The Prophet,
peace be upon him,
used to forgive others.
We have attached to
this quality, which is
one of his many qualities.
May peace and love
towards each another
pervade the world.
Tell us about
your costume and the
meaning of the colors.
Pease be upon
the Prophet Muhammad,
This jalaba is called
mrqwa,
most Sufis in Sudan wear
the mrqwa whether it is
green or white or
green with red,
meaning full of colors.
The green color is
the dress color of the
inhabitants of Heaven,
God willing.
The Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him,
used to like colors;
the red, the blue,
the green,
and this is our emblem.
The Sufi generally
emulate all movements
and behaviors
of the Prophet,
peace be upon him,
meaning they emulate
him in everything
as an example.
They emulate him
as much as they can,
in his prayers,
in his characteristics…
Tell us about this dress.
This is
a Sudanese garment,
a kind of custom and
tradition of a woman
in Sudan.
Originally it represents
a Sudanese woman and
the colors and designs
differ usually.
It is a tradition that is
very famous in Sudan.
It is called Sudanese
Thobe (garment),
it has a designated way
of wearing it.
Tell us about
this costume.
Of course, this is
a Sudanese jalaba but
the turban is missing.
It is also worn with
a shawl which is to
complete the costume.
Today I am not wearing
the turban,
this gives the dress
a kind of youth look.
The Sudanese jalaba
has specific norms.
Today I am wearing one
that is bit closer to
a youth flavor that
worn by the Sheikhs.
It is always worn
in religious occasions
and for national
celebrations…
What is your wish
to the world ?
My wish to the world
is to unite, to discard
disagreements, and
I pray to Allah from my
heart to unite the human,
to unite all nations of
the world and
to accept one another,
to respect the religions
of one another, and
respect their beliefs
and respect the ways
of others, whatever
is carried as beliefs,
whatever is carried
as ethnicity and roots.
I wish for peace
and for love to prevail,
for the spirit of
forgiveness between
people to prevail,
because Islam is peace.
Islam is peace.
I wish many things
to the world, but
first most I wish that
peace returns to
all the world and
all people live in peace
loving each other.
The message of peace,
love, stability,
no terrorism and no war.
And I wish to the world
and all the Muslims
everlasting health and
brotherhood, friendship,
kindness, compassion
and forgiveness.
The Prophet,
peace be upon him, is
a Prophet of forgiveness.
O Allah O Allah
O Allah O Allah
We wish
all Allah-loving Muslims
around the world a
blessed Mawlid Al-Nabi
in remembrance of
the glorious
Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him.
Thank you for
your gentle presence
on today’s program.
