Traditional Music and Dance Performances from Central Asia
Greetings, creative viewers. Welcome to Enlightening Entertainment. Since the very first century, cultures across vast distances of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Mediterranean regions were connected through bustling trade, exchanges of goods and technologies, by land and sea.

For thousands of years, travelers on these ancient yet still-used routes also shared one another’s cultures. They were accompanied by vibrant music and dance, everywhere along the way. Today, let us enjoy a modern-day exchange of the arts through the performances by artists from the beautiful countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and South Korea, where they gathered.

South Korea was also a part of the ancient travel routes. Artist delegations from the various countries, including the host country’s own traditional performing group, Sorinaru, paid tribute to the music and dances of Central Asia through a unique joint concert.

The collaborating Central Asian groups included: Sogdiana, Uzbekistan’s Chamber Orchestra of Folk Instruments; Miras, a nationally recognized traditional dance group from Turkmenistan; Sazgen, a talented folk ensemble formed by Kazakhstan’s Museum of National Instruments; the Zarafshon Ensemble, a leading musical collective from Tajikistan; and the Kyrgyz National Academy Opera-Ballet Theater.

This is a display of cultures of the world’s people, where all the people perform like brothers, understanding each other. And that’s why it proves, one more time, that art has no national boundaries.

Supreme Master Television, greetings. My name is Dr. Bec Beseev. I am from Kyrgyzstan. We are happy that we can present our art, Kyrgyz art, and we know that it will be a great pleasure.

Established in 1926, the National Academy Opera-Ballet Theater is the center of music and arts of the Kyrgyz Republic. The theater has performed on more than 200 stages of opera and ballet. The ballet theater has been performing actively at home and abroad, including in Russia, China, and Turkey, fascinating audiences with the soul-stirring music from Kyrgyzstan.

The philharmonic group Sazgen is a folk ensemble created in 1981 by the Kazakh Republic’s Museum of National Instruments. Sazgen performs music composed by famous Kazakh composers such as Kurmanzy, Yhlas and Tattimbet. What’s more, through its mastery of instruments from ancient Kazakhstan, the band offers an opportunity to savor melodies from the lush eastern grasslands, the Kazakh Steppe. Please enjoy the following collaborative performance featuring the kobyz, a traditional Kazakh fiddle.

When we return, we will continue with more songs and music performances from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Please stay tuned to Supreme Master Television.

Welcome back to Enlightening Entertainment. Hailing from Tajikistan is the Zarafshon Ensemble, which was founded in 1968 by the A. Juraev Tajik State Philharmonic Society. Originally, the Ensemble was composed of invited amateur artists from all over the country. Today, it is not only a premiere performing group in the nation, but also the winner in five international music festivals.

We are the delegation from Tajikistan. I am the people’s artist Alaznsho Shudiev, this is our group, Zarafshon. Zarafshon means “gold” – art that we bring to all the peoples of the world.

There is no bigger joy in the world There is no bigger joy in the world than seeing one’s loved ones and friends

At the gathering of the Central Asian artist delegations in South Korea, musicians also demonstrated how different instruments can harmonize one another and bring people together.

I am Firuza Abdurahimova, art director and conductor of the Uzbek Chamber Orchestra of National Instruments, Sogdiana, Uzbekistan.

Today we can also witness how our wind instrument performers play with Korean performers. An Uzbek tune sounds very pleasant when our orchestra performs it, and the improvisation part is played by Korean fiddler. It’s very nice to see, how we understand each other and feel each other. This is the unity of cultures that we always strive for.

The Uzbek Chamber Orchestra of Folk Instruments, Sogdiana, was established in 1991 to acquaint the general public with the diversity of Uzbek folk instruments and richness of their potential sound. Sogdiana’s wide repertoire ranges from Uzbek professional music of oral traditions, to works of Uzbek composers and compositions of both East and West.

In 1996, on the 30th International Music Festival in Spain, the group was lauded with the International Certificate of High Professional Distinction. Please enjoy our final performance by Sogdiana, the Chamber Orchestra of Uzbek Folk Instruments.

May God grant us that our friendship with all our friends who came from Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and the Korean people, lasts for thousands years, so that our peoples always continue this [travel road] that our grandfathers, ancestors were walking for thousands of years.

We thank the distinguished artist groups from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and South Korea for presenting this glimpse into the rich and sophisticated performing arts of Central Asia. May you and your countries be blessed with continued friendship, prosperity, and harmony!
