泰國及柬埔寨水災

世界最大的稻米出口國泰國，自今年7月中旬遭受水災截至9月底有200萬畝農田被淹；鄰國柬埔寨有407,000畝稻田被淹，衛生與糧食安全狀況令人擔憂。

部分海鳥受困魚網而瀕絕

今年9月27日，英國蘇格蘭海洋生物多樣性世界會議（World Conference on Marine Biodiversity）上，提交的一項研究估計全球每年有高達32萬隻海鳥被魚船拖網困住死亡，一些信天翁、海燕與海鷗品種幾乎滅絕。

悠樂大學生發明淡化海水系統

悠樂（越南）大學生阮玉英（Nguy?n Ng?c Anh）及范維靈（Ph?m Duy Linh）以回收材料為主，創造用陽光淡化海水的居家系統，贏得大學部首獎，這項設計提供日常生活中足夠的淡水用量。

抽菸會導致失明

2011年9月24日，新加坡研究者發表研究指出，近六成癮君子不知道抽菸與老年性黃斑部病變（Age-related Macular Degeneration）有關，這疾病會造成失明，科學家建議最好的方式是告知民眾抽菸會導致失明。
