As part of a nationwide campaign to reduce gambling, which Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin has said is an addiction worse than alcohol, poker and other casino games were banned last July 2009 in all but four remote regions.
An additional measure passed in February 2010 also prohibits activities of the Russian Sports Poker Federation. Since that time, the Economic Crimes Unit has shut down at least 70 illegal casinos and 600 slot machine arcades, to help protect citizens from gambling’s potentially devastating effects.
Our sincere appreciation, Your Excellency, government personnel and Russia for your efforts to protect the public from such harmful practices.
Wishing the people of Russia and all global citizens the joy of wholesome, fulfilling lives shared with loved ones.
