ECO summit concludes with unifying declaration. Turkish President Abdullah Gül was joined by fellow leaders of member countries as he hosted the most recent meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Istanbul. There, participants from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan convened with goals of continuing to improve living standards for all in the region. They concluded by signing the Istanbul Declaration, which highlighted greater prosperity through sustainable growth as well as a further easing of trade restrictions and enhanced transportation and communication. The declaration also called for member nations to improve their relations with the United Nations and other international organizations, while emphasizing resolution of disharmony through peaceful diplomacy and international law.
