The New Zealand Parliament has expanded previous drugged driving legislation to include the ban of benzodiazepines, or benzo - a class of medication prescribed as a calming sedative that also induces sleep, which can cause severe impairment while driving. The ban of benzo, along with the ban of hand-held cell phones in cars, is immediately effective.

Kudos New Zealand for amending laws to secure the well-being of citizens. May many more countries join in such measures that enhance both safety and peace of mind.
