In an interview with China Daily on June 23, 2011, leading Chinese marine environmental forecasters call for improved warning systems as they report that the nation is at increasing risk of storm-related disasters over the next decade due in part to the adverse effects of climate change.

The Tanzanian government announces that as of June 23, 2011, it has cancelled plans to build a road through the northern portion of the Serengeti National Park, a decision that protects the region’s ecosystem, including the habitat for millions of migrating wildebeest, antelope and zebra.
