United Nations humanitarian agencies are calling for increased humanitarian assistance for the millions of people across the Horn of Africa who are suffering from severe food and water shortages due to failed harvests caused by the worst drought in 30 years.

New studies by University of Michigan researchers in the USA show that glaciers in the Canadian Arctic, previously thought to be stable, are actually major contributors to sea level rise, with the recent rate of melt melt being four times higher than what it was in the late 1990s.
