Popular website Ecorazzi reports on “Top 10 Vegan Stories of 2010.” An article published in the award-winning eco-friendly online news agency describes inspiring celebrity vegan transformations in 2010 that have benefited health, the environment, and animal welfare. These included boxing champion Mike Tyson’s announcement that he relinquished all animal products as part of turning his life around; top chefs and celebrities like Stella McCartney and Simon Cowell who joined Sir Paul McCartney in promoting the Meatless Monday campaign; international magazine Business Week’s popular article, “The Rise of the Power Vegans,” which profiled top vegan entrepreneurs such as Steve Wynn of Wynn Hotels, and billionaire publisher and editor Mort Zuckerman; and 42nd US President Bill Clinton’s primarily plant-based diet that has helped him shed weight and maintain great health.

Similarly, the widely distributed US-based Washington Post featured an article about the rising mainstream popularity of vegan fare, reporting that Grammy Award-winning singer Brandy Norwood announced her 2011 New Year’s resolution to resume veganism, while chart-topping and Gold-record selling Jewish American reggae artist Matisyahu also shared his 2010 plant-based transformation, which occurred after he read Jonathan Safran Foer’s book “Eating Animals.” Matisyahu said, “… Last February I became vegan and that has changed everything. Basically I typically don’t depend any more on others for my food. I have to cook myself and therefore I am much more grateful and conscious of what I am eating.” These articles also describe the expanding availability of vegan foods across the globe, saying that plant-based options can now be found in popular locales like Starbucks, 7-11 convenience stores, and even in popular theme park Disneyworld.

In addition, the year 2010 saw several vegan books featured on the New York Times Bestsellers list, including Alicia Silverstone’s “The Kind Diet” and vegan chef Tal Ronnen’s “The Conscious Cook.” Meanwhile, more than half the 1,500 chefs polled in a survey by the US-based National Restaurant Association for its new “What's Hot in 2011” list included vegan entrees as a hot trend.

Many thanks, Ecorazzi and the Washington Post for sharing these encouraging developments in compassionate living and healthy eating. With excitement for the year ahead, we look forward to the continued spread of the vegan trend, bringing peace of mind as it saves lives as well as our precious planet.
