Australia’s major city approves alcohol-free zones.
The city council of Sydney has voted in favor of 22 alcohol-free regions, including an area called The Block which is owned by the Aboriginal Housing Company. The request for The Block zoning was made by Aboriginal elders in efforts to bring harmony and safety to the indigenous community. Deputy Lord Mayor Marcelle Hoff said, "It enables the elders …to gently say .., 'Look, this is an alcohol-free zone, don't drink here please,' and it works."
Bravo Sydney City Council and Aboriginal eldersfor your decision to better the society and our younger generation. May your neighborhoods be graced with tranquility and peace.
