Lights go out as Britain bids farewell to the traditional bulbIn with the new bulb, out with the old. As part of a voluntary switch in favor of energy efficiency, retailers in the United Kingdom will not be refilling stocks of conventional 75- and 100-watt light bulbs, which are being replaced with their energy-saving compact fluorescent counterparts. All wattages of incandescent bulbs will be phased out by 2012. It is estimated that a change to all energy-efficient bulbs will reduce CO2 emissions nationally by 5 million tons per year. What a bright idea! A green hats off, all retailers and United Kingdom, for your promotion of these eco-friendly lifestyle changes. May we all be inspired toward greater awareness and actions of gentle care for all life on the planet.
