On Thursday， April １５， Tanzania naturalized １６２，０００ previously displaced Burundi people， many of whom had been living in the country since １９7２.

Commending the action as the most generous of its kind anywhere， the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) encouraged other countries to do similarly.

Former refugee Mr. Festo Bizimaana said，"Today marks a new era in my life and I will make the most of it." Additionally， the Tanzanian government has pledged to allocate land to the new citizens
