Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi reaches out for unity. In a telephone interview with UK-based Reuters news agency, her first in six years, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate reaffirmed her willingness to cooperate with the nation’s military toward a goal of benefiting the Burmese people. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi stated, “I don't want to see the military falling. I want to see the military rising to dignified heights of professionalism and true patriotism. I think it's quite obvious what the people want; the people just want better lives based on security and on freedom.” She also called for gradual, non-violent change, saying that the constructive nature of the transition is more important than its speed.

We are humbled, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, by your benevolence and continued commitment to improve the lives and well being of fellow citizens. May Buddha bless your efforts toward such uplifting goals as we wish you and the gentle Burmese people lasting stability and peace.
