In animal welfare news, the rare Yunnan black snub-nosed monkeys increase in numbers. Chinese zoologists have stated that there are now 2,500 of the primates, which is 750 more than in 1994. The scientists added that this number is significant in terms of avoiding extinction. However, ongoing conservation efforts by local communities are needed for further growth of the population. The monkey’s habitat is in a sheltered area of 2,000 square kilometers between the Jinsha and Lancang Rivers in China.
