In animal welfare news, Mitzi the canine regains her ability to walk normally through the use of a prosthetic ankle. The three-and-a half- year-old German Shepherd from the United Kingdom became the first dog to undergo this type of surgery. It was developed by Professor Gordon Blunt of University College, London and Dr. Fitzpatrick of Godalming. After Mitzi’s foot was crushed and needed to be amputated, a titanium rod was implanted in the bone. It included a peg to which the prosthetic is attached.

Our heartfelt thankfulness, Professor Gordon Blunt and Dr. Fitzpatrick, for your very beneficial innovation. We wish you, beautiful Mitzi, many happy years with loved ones, joyfully partaking in all life’s wonderful activities.
