Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Sri Lanka.
In early October, the western Sri Lankan district of Puttalam was pummeled by a storm that brought powerful winds and heavy rains. Four people perished and at least 15 were hospitalized as trees were uprooted and over 1,000 homes were damaged or destroyed. Supreme Master Ching Hai donated US$10,000 in aid on October 5 with all her sympathy and prayers, an amount that could acquire US$109,000 in essential items purchased in the United States, based on Sri Lanka’s cost of living.

Traveling to the affected area, our Association’s relief team worked with the Disaster Management Center in the capital city of Colombo to go to distribute relief parcels to 135 affected families in Putallam District’s town of Chilaw.

The packages included such food items as rice, biscuits, coconut oil, sugar, tea leaves, dhal, and sweets, as well as mosquito nets, bath towels, pillow cases and detergent powder.

We appreciate the help of Colombo’s Disaster Management Center. Our gratefulness goes also to Supreme Master Ching Hai for her generous assistance to the distressed, and we thank our Association’s relief team for their attentive endeavors.

Wishing the Sri Lankan people a swift recuperation of their productive day-to-day lives, as such weather extremities subside through humanity’s gentler ways.
