The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Friday, May 28 authorizing the withdrawal of up to 2,000 troops by June 30 from secure areas.

Effective July 1, the project’s name will also be changed to reflect the longer-term goal of stability, to United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
Currently, a UN peacekeeping presence is planned in the central African nation until June 2011, with citizens’ protection its priority.

United Nations Security Council and other UN personnel, we appreciate your efforts and continued commitment to safeguarding the warmhearted Congolese people. May their lives and lands be graced with lasting harmony and peace.
