Following an initial ruling that applied to primary and secondary schools, the nation’s High Court ruled on Monday, August 9 that corporal punishment would be banned from schools across the country. The rulings followed petitioning by human rights groups and the request of the Bangladeshi Education Ministry for an end to the damaging practice, which reportedly was also the reason that a 10-year-old boy recently took his own life.

We thank the Honorable Justices of the Bangladeshi High Court for your fair and merciful decision. Blessed be schools worldwide in adopting peaceful ways to help children cultivate moral ideals and meaningful purpose in their lives.
