Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Mexico. On August 31, Category 5 Hurricane Jimena made landfall in North Mexico, bringing floods to Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and causing a state of emergency to be declared in the municipalities of Los Cabos, La Paz, Comondú, Loreto and Mulegé.
Homes and crops were damaged as one person lost his life and some 4,000 were evacuated to shelters. On September 4, conveying all her love and sympathy, Supreme Master Ching Hai donated an initial US$10,000 in aid, asking that our native Association members go help the most desperate, such as orphans and the elderly without caregivers.
This amount could obtain US$33,000 in relief supplies if purchased in the United States, based on Mexico’s cost of living. Our Association’s relief team from Mexico went to the affected regions, covering their own travel and related expenses.
As Supreme Master Ching Hai, frequently asks for updates, the following is a report from our Association members via Foreign Group: September 19, 2009 Most merciful Master, Re: Hurricane in North MexicoOn September 11, our Mexican relief team immediately delivered 1,050 bags of food and water to the most afflicted areas of Mulegé and Comondú.
The victims thanked Master with all their hearts and sent their gratitude for Master’s noble contribution and abundant love.
With Master’s donation, half of the affected areas have received relief supplies; however there are around 2,000 families still waiting for more help in Comondú. and Mulegé.
We would like to ask for Master’s support for the rest needed. Thank you so much, Master! With all our love,Relief team in Mexico Supreme Master Ching Hai immediately pledged an additional US$10,000 for the remaining relief work, the total US$20,000 donation being enough to purchase US$66,000 in emergency items, if acquired in the United States, based on the cost of living in Mexico.
