Mr. Tony Fernandes, founder of Malaysian low-cost airline AirAsia and team principal of the new Formula One Lotus Racing team, has banned foie gras from all event menus.

His action was inspired by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) Asian Ambassador and Formula One heiress Tamara Ecclestone, who had written letters to all Formula One team sponsors calling for them to keep the cruelly produced liver off their menus.

Ducks and geese being prepared for foie gras slaughter are force-fed daily through tubes the human equivalent of some 20 kilograms of pasta, a practice that often results in injury and illness even before their death.

A statement from PETA Asia-Pacific said, "We are delighted that Lotus Racing and AirAsia will never again serve 'torture in a tin' at their events."

Our big Bravo Tony Fernandes for your thoughtfully kind decision and many thanks, Ms. Tamara Ecclestone and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for your efforts to raise public awareness about the inhumanely-produced foie gras. May our world soon be blessed with compassionate meals on every occasion.
