When 68-year-old Lao Pan died in early November, the two canine companions with whom he had shared his last years mourned his passing.

One dog went to his grave site and stood guard, while the other refused either food or drink and himself passed away some days later in their humble home in Panjiatun village of Shangdong Province.
Seeing the larger yellow-coated dog at the place of Lao Pan's burial after more than seven days, local residents tried to coax him back to the village and feed him with buns.

However, the faithful dog would take the buns and return to his vigil. Touched by his loyalty, villagers now are offering food and water, with plans to build a sheltering kennel near his human caregiver's grave.

Our hearts are deeply moved by the purity and love of these two faithful companions.
May we all be touched to appreciate the animals around us with evermore thoughtfulness, care and love.
