Global warming causes animal migration.

Research has shown that 30 species of reptiles and amphibians are moving to higher elevations for cooler habitats. Biologist Christopher Razworthy from the American Museum of Natural History said that there will eventually be no higher grounds available. Two toad and one gecko species are currently in danger of extinction.

Mr. Razworthy, you have our appreciation for your keen observations. Our prayers for the world to take quick, effective actions to sustain our animal co-inhabitants’ lives as well as our own. (*)

Strong reasons to forego meat.

World hunger, detrimental health effects, staggering food prices, land degradation and loss of precious resources like water. These and many other top challenges of our world, such as environmental and social issues, have their origins in meat production, and are interconnected. Supreme Master Ching Hai touched upon all of them during a videoconference held earlier this week with our Association members in London, United Kingdom.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: And if we don’t eat meat, then there is no transportation necessary and less fuel needed. And all these people can be trained to do something else. And there will be less hunger because we will use the agricultural products, cereals, to feed humans instead of feeding more bred animals in the future. So we don’t have hunger anymore and there will be no more war because of hunger. So the effect is immense. Keep multiplying it, and then you know what I mean.

VOICE: The livestock industry is the number one producer of the most potent greenhouse gases. The UN reports that meat production emits 37 per cent of the world's methane gas, which has 23 times the global warming effect of carbon dioxide. Processing meat is also responsible for 65 per cent of the nitrous oxide emissions, which are 310 times more potent than CO2. A new study appearing in the May issue of the scientific journal “Nature” reveals scientists’ concern that only a little more warming could unleash the methane that is now trapped deep in the ocean and in the frozen permafrost. Its massive volume is estimated as double the world’s known fossil fuel reserves.

Supreme Master Ching Hai:  Because the methane gas, it has been trapped all these centuries, because of stockbreeding, into the lakes into the permafrost, into the ocean, and now it is melting and then the gas will be released also. On top of that, we have daily more animal breeding, more methane gas, and we will never stop. It just be more and more trouble, deeper and deeper into trouble. So just stop killing animals, stop raising animals anymore. And we don’t produce anymore methane gas. Then it is a perfect picture.

VOICE: We thank Supreme Master Ching Hai for showing us the comprehensive picture of our situation, from the economic to the spiritual effects. We pray that we will avoid the chain of calamities from meat production as the benefits of animal-free living are likewise manifold. May we embrace the lives-saving lifestyle for the bright future of all.
