Interview with Supreme Master Ching Hai
by Spiritual Awakening Radio, USA July 29, 2008

James Bean, Producer and Host, Spiritual Awakening Radio: I certainly hope that enough people become vegetarians soon enough and enough change happens to actually reduce the greenhouse gases in time. That we’re not behind of the curve so that we’re too late, but enough change can happen so we can keep the ice caps from melting and those things that they talk about could happen if we don’t act soon enough.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: You see, the more people join in the vegetarian circle, the more time we will have to curb the global warming. Not long ago, we had only like 2 years, but now, due to all the effort of everybody, going out distributing flyers and all the media help with the broadcasting information, including our TV. And now more and more people have joined the vegetarian diet due to the compassionate love that they want to save lives on the planet now. And so Heaven has mercy on us and we have gained many more months. Now we have 3 years and 6 months instead of only 2 years like before. As we go on, I see that we gain more and more time, and I’m very happy to tell you.

Illegal plantations boost global warming.

During a recent regional anti-drug summit, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe recommended that drug trafficking be considered a global warming threat, saying that its activities are responsible for considerable deforestation each year. President Uribe indicated that illegal plantations have caused the destruction of over 2 million hectares of Colombia’s rainforest jungles.

Many thanks, President Uribe, for your suggestion to end the detrimental activities of drug production as part of addressing the pressing condition of global warming. Heaven bless you and your country’s noble efforts to create a better future for all.

Global warming threatens to destroy the Thames River system.

The Thames Vulnerability Assessment Report prepared by WWF-UK forecasts the Thames River system will have less water, but at the same time will be at a five-fold increased risk for flooding by 2080 due to climate change.  WWF-UK freshwater policy advisor, Dr. Tom Le Quesne stated, “Climate change is likely to result in hotter, drier summers and warmer, wetter winters. Perversely, this means we will suffer from having both more water, and less, with greater risk from flooding and drought.” Mr. Le Quesne recommended that solutions to address the situation need to take a holistic approach rather than independently tackling each issue.

We appreciate this warning, WWF-UK and pray all Britons will quickly act to halt the life-threatening effects of climate change through sustainable lifestyles.

European Union advises going veg to stop global warming.

The European Union’s website, available in 21 languages, offers a section that presents ways for each person to address climate change. Among the top three suggestions is a recommendation to eat vegetables rather than meat. Following the advisement, “Eat your veg!” is a statement that says, “Producing meat is both CO2 and methane-intensive and requires large amounts of water.”

A big green hats off, European Union, for helping get the word out that we can all halt climate change through our dietary choices. May everyone join in turning to the animal-free vegetarian diet as the quickest way to planetary health and survival.
