SOS! International Seminar on Global Warming
Live Videoconference with Supreme Master Ching Hai

Supreme Master Ching Hai: We have to tackle the root of problem. The root of the problem is the cause of global warming, and that root is our unkindness to our co-inhabitants. And we have also been unkind to our environment. In order to solve the problem that we are facing right now, we have to reverse our actions. We have to be kind to our co-inhabitants.

Supreme Master Ching Hai:: How easy to stop global warming if we just change to an animal-free diet; change to vegetarian lifestyle; then we would have the chance to keep this home that we so love, also for our future children.

Leaders of government and media, religion and education have sought her advice, the wisdom of one deeply concerned and most aware of humanity’s situation. Supreme Master Ching Hai has also graciously accepted invitations from our Association members around the world, from Europe to Asia to the Americas, to respond to their questions about global warming.

Costa Rican music band promotes Earth protection and vegetarianism.

The Grammy Award-winning world music band Editus from Costa Rica recently began a tour of free concerts called “Editus 360” to raise awareness about global warming. After enchanting the audience with their acclaimed instrumental ensemble, the musicians encouraged the audience to join a tree planting program they are supporting in conjunction with the non-profit organization, Tropical Science Center. Supreme Master Television spoke with Editus at a recent concert last weekend.

Concert “Carbono Neutral” [Neutral Carbon], La Sabana, San José, Costa Rica

Edín Solís  – Guitar musician, Editus: We have been connected with many projects that have to do with conservation. As musician we should take music as a tool, too, to transmit messages. And a very urgent message right now is to create awareness about this (global warming).

VOICE: The band’s percussionist, Carlos Vargas, is a vegetarian. He adds the role of the plant-based diet to their message.

Carlos Vargas (Tapado) –Percussion musician, Editus: Actually, one of the largest emissions of carbon, of the warming, is the production of animals, the cow production, of hog, of chicken farms, among others. People could find that also being vegetarian produces a series of very, very healthful conditions in each person.

It is very important that each one of us seeks information. One must sow trees, but that is not enough; more than that, the consumption of meat is one of the greatest contaminants of the world, even more than fuel. So, everyone please investigate, be conscious, be part of the change, and well, thanks for coming and spread the word.

VOICE: We thank Editus for your conscientious endeavors in using your art and influence to awaken fans to the urgency of climate change and the importance of vegetarianism. May your noble efforts bear much success.

Iran to import wheat.

Iran will begin importing the grain next month, as the nation’s production fell by 20 percent in the past year due to severe drought conditions. A 50 percent decline in annual rainfall led to a halt in the country’s wheat exports in March. Iran’s Deputy Minister of Commerce Majid Parsania stated, “We will start importing wheat next month, at a monthly rate of one million tons.”

Iran, we pray for the blessing of rain to ensure plentiful sustenance for your lovely people. May we meanwhile hasten worldwide solutions to cool the planet most quickly and ensure food abundance for all.

Global warming in Australia affecting over a million people.

With the country currently undergoing the most severe drought in 100 years, a recent report on the water supply from the Murray-Darling river system concludes that although there is sufficient drinking water until next year (2009), the water supply beyond that point is not assured. Speaking of the basin’s current condition, Climate Change Minister Penny Wong said the drought is a reminder of how susceptible Australia is to the effects of climate change.

Our thanks, Minister Wong, for raising awareness about this most pressing issue. We pray for the blessing of rain to arrive in Australia as the world’s citizens strive to take the necessary steps to restore the natural harmony of our planetary home.
