The Taiwan-Japan Intestinal Academic Forum was recently held at Taipei Medical University in Formosa (Taiwan). There, internationally prominent experts gathered for discussions of cancer prevention and health. Among the participants was Formosa’s Dr. Wang Hwei-ming, a vegan and Director of Colorectal Surgery
at Taichung Veterans General Hospital as well as one of the world’s top colorectal cancer surgeons.

With 655,000 people who currently succumb to colorectal cancer annually, it is the third-highest cause of cancer-related deaths in the Western world.

Dr. Wang Hwei-ming spoke to our correspondent about his experience with this disease, as he also offered cancer-preventive tips.

Dr. Wang Hwei-ming, Director of Department of Colorectal Surgery, Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Formosa, Vegan (M): Consuming a lot of meat, humans are thus exposed to a carcinogenic environment.

That’s why now the number of colorectal cancer patients is higher than ever before. Also a lot of lung cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer, these four carcinomas are definitely related to diet.

I ask my patients if possible to become vegans, and refrain from taking any animal-related foods, including eggs and milk.

VOICE: In addition to being better for human health, Dr. Wang reminded of the plant-based diet’s planet-cooling benefits.

Dr. Wang Hwei-Ming, Renowned Chief Surgeon, Vegan (M): We must take great care and change our habits.

Otherwise, it would be very difficult to have good health. To change our diet, I hope everyone would begin from the dining table. There’s no need to spend money; just stop eating the animals.

We all know now that our whole environment is being affected by the livestock industry, which causes such a major increase in global warming.

So, to save energy and reduce carbon emissions, we must change our diet to benefit ourselves and others. We benefit, and the environment of the planet will also be restored.
Please try your best to advocate this and encourage everyone to do the same.

VOICE: Dr. Wang Hwei-ming and other experts at the Taiwan-Japan Intestinal Academic Forum, we are grateful for your health-promoting insights. Let us all heed such valued advice and turn to the vegan lifestyle, for ourselves, our loved ones and the planet.
