A 21-year-old Australian who, on a dare, consumed a slug, which is a type of terrestrial mollusk without a shell, has been hospitalized and is now struggling to stay alive.

The young man has been diagnosed with a rare form of meningitis, known as rat lungworm disease, which can cause fatal swelling of the brain and spinal cord.

It is caused by a parasitic worm carried by rats, whose droppings are often consumed by slugs and snails.
Our heartfelt prayers for the recovery of the young man.

Let us avert such sad outcomes for ourselves and loved ones by choosing the compassionate and life-sustaining plant-based diet.
