A new study released Monday shows that an indoor smoking ban passed in 2006 in Starkville, Mississippi, USA led to a 27% decrease in the number of heart attacks. This research reaffirms the findings of a larger study commissioned by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where smoking bans in public
places were evaluated in 11 other international locations and substantiated that they did indeed lower rates of heart attacks and heart disease. Mississippi study leads, Dr. Robert McMillen and Dr. Robert Collins, are recommending a statewide public ban on smoking.
