Shellfish poisoning in New Zealand - 13 Feb 2010

Following the hospitalization of at least four people with paralytic poisoning, health officials warned the public not to eat any bi-valve shellfish, which include mussels, cockles, oysters and scallops. Medical Officer of the Waikato District, Dr. Phil Shoemack said that besides the seriously ill, an even higher number of persons had complained of symptoms that included numbness and tingling around the mouth, along with muscle weakness, loss of coordination and breathing problems.

Our sincere thanks, Dr. Shoemack and New Zealand health officials for your efforts to safeguard the public. With such a plentiful choice of wholesome plant-based foods, let us quickly adopt the vegan lifestyle for the flourishing benefit of all beings.
