Halo. Welcome to Enlightening Entertainment on Supreme Master Television.
Yellow: Welcome!
HOST: Today, we are going to introduce, with Yellow here with us, a very special puppet show to our viewers.
Yellow: Hihihi, Halo. I am Yellow. I am so happy to meet you.
HOST: I am happy to see you too.
Yellow: Can I know about today’s puppet theater?
HOST: Sure.
Today, we are going to enjoy a performance by the Hyundai Puppet Theatre, which is the most famous puppet
performance theater in Korea. When KBS TV, the Korea’s largest public TV station, was established in 1962, the Hyundai Puppet Theatre was established also as KBS Puppet Performance Theater. Since being established, it has been doing essential roles of the creation and development of Korean broadcasting puppet shows by carrying out puppet programs of major Korean TV stations such as MBC TV, TBS TV, EBS TV, and SBS TV.
Yellow: Wow. I love TV puppet shows! And they have made so many puppet shows I have loved!
HOST: That’s not all. The Hyundai Puppet Theatre has also presented numerous puppet shows to theater stages, besides television. They have also made mascot costumes for the Olympic Games through their internationally recognized talent of puppet making.
Yellow: Wow. What kind of mascots? I am so curious!
HOST: They made “Sam” of the 1984 LA Olympic Games,“Hodori” of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, “Pan Pan” of the 1990 Beijing Asian Games, “Haakon and Kristin” of the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games, and “Cobi” of the 1996 Barcelona Olympic Games.
Yellow: Wow. That’s awesome. So, what show are we watching today? I can’t wait to see it!
HOST: The performance you will watch today is “Deong Deong Kung Ta Kung,” a traditional puppet show
performed by the Hyundai Puppet Theatre together with the Gyeonggi Korean Traditional Music Center.
The name is very unique, yes?
Yellow: Deong Deong Kung Ta Kung! Hihi,I’m so happy, my shoulders are suddenly dancing.
HOST: Yes. This echo-like word represents the beat of traditional music.
