In animal welfare news, French groups speak out to halt the wearing of fur. Several hundred individuals from about 30 organizations gathered near the Paris Opera in France to raise awareness about the abysmal cruelty involved in the fur industry. Several participants described why they felt it was important to support this campaign.

Singer Caroline Legrand (f): I stand for justice, for love, and for the evolution of consciousness all over the whole planet.

Participant (m): We have to show people that wearing animal fur is a backward idea, that we don't need it and millions of animals suffer in the name of fashion.

ANCHOR: They also explained why they have chosen to adopt the vegan diet.

Caroline Legrand (f): Animals are important. They are part of the planet for the same reasons as anyone of us. I think that life is sacred. That is it.

Participant (m): It is precisely one of the best ways to restore the balance, knowing that millions of tons of cereals are for animal feed. Indeed, we use them to feed the livestock while these cereals could feed millions of people on the planet. And in fact, the animal industries are the greatest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world.

ANCHOR: The occasion was organized by March Against Fur, a collective of associations, activists, and citizens advocating better treatment of our animal friends. Our warm appreciation, March Against Fur and all those who participated in this very meaningful event to protect the precious lives of our fellow beings.
