Undercover video shows cruelty to reindeer. The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has released a video demonstrating the mistreatment of reindeer that are herded and transported prior to their slaughter,primarily in Nordic European countries, for meat. The video, which is especially disturbing given that these gentle animals symbolize the giving spirit of Christmas, showed the reindeer suffering and in pain and distress as they were being dragged and shoved onto trucks as well as the torturous and inhumane cutting of their antlers. The WSPA is calling for governments to enforce animal welfare laws adopted in 2008 by the Nordic Council of Minister, which state that all reindeer should be treated with respect and not be subjected to unnecessary pain or suffering.
