Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Kenya.
In early January, heavy rains over a week’s period caused landslides and flash floods that swept away homes and crops in northern Kenya, leaving at least 30,000 people in urgent need of assistance.

At least 26 people were reported to have perished. Supreme Master Ching Hai had quickly asked our Association’s nearby relief team to go if possible and offer help to the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and the orphaned, expressing her deep sorrow and prayers.

Receiving US$10,000, a donation that could purchase US$294,000 in emergency aid, our Association’s relief team from Kenya rushed to the town of Lodwar, where they found that sections of roads had been washed away.

Despite the obstacles, they were able to bring a truck full of soap, flour, rice, cooking oil, salt, and vegetables to an evacuee camp where the goods were distributed to those most in need.

With smiles of joy, the displaced flood victims expressed their gratitude in a song, whose lyrics went, “Today is the day when God Himself meets His people.  None other than God Himself has provided for us.

Glory to God Who has come…” We join in thankfulness for Supreme Master Ching Hai’s loving assistance, and to our Association’s relief team for their diligent efforts.

Sending our sympathies for the loss of loved ones, we pray that the Kenyan people recover quickly to their productive daily lives, and that such disasters are minimized with our return to more compassionate ways of living.
