Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from China.
At the end of June, heavy rain throughout southern China caused hundreds to perish as 195,000 houses collapsed and more than 2 million hectares of farmland were submerged. In Jiangxi province, at least 100,000 people residing along the Fuhe River were left to rely on aid after the Changkai levee was destroyed amidst the region’s worst floods in a century.

Flood victim (m): Many of my seedlings were drowned, which means I won’t have any crop harvest this year.

Flood victim (m): This used to be the main road in the village which led to the levee. After it was broken,
all the water flowed in our direction along the road. Now some parts of this road are filled with sand.
Here, for example, where it is lower, it is also submerged and cars can’t drive through.

VOICE: Conveying her heartfelt prayers, Supreme Master Ching Hai asked that our nearby Association members go and offer help, saying that funds would be available for reimbursement.
Our Association members donated US$3,900 for relief supplies, an amount that could purchase US$28,000 in emergency items in the United States, based on China’s cost of living.

Covering their own travel expenses of US$450, our native relief team went to the worst-afflicted
Changkai Township.

Correspondent (f): I am standing at the site of the levee breach in Changkai Township, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi,
which is the most severely damaged area. Hallo, can you tell us about the situation at the time of the flooding?

Flood victim (m): At that time, we had four or five successive days of rain, with daily accumulated rainfall
mounting to over 100 millimeters. This is the site where the levee broke. This is the Fu River. The soldiers have helped to evacuate 100,000 people away from here.

Flood victim (m): This endless desert you are looking at right now used to be a field, and we were about to harvest the crops.

VOICE: The relief team distributed most urgently needed supplies to the villagers, including medicine, water,
and cash assistance. The recipients expressed their joy and appreciation for Supreme Master Ching Hai and our Association’s timely aid and comfort.

Relief recipient (m): I am grateful for all the loving care people have shown to us. I thank them for helping
us to rebuild our homes as soon as possible.

VOICE: We also appreciate the loving support of Supreme Master Ching Hai as well as our Association’s relief team for their diligence and selfless efforts. Our prayers for the flood victims’ swift recuperation to productive day-to-day lives as we look forward to the easing of such devastations through humanity’s gentler care of one another and the environment.
