Virgin Atlantic to test jet biofuel

Airline works on potentially green fuel. Virgin Atlantic is undertaking research to develop an environmentally-friendly alternative fuel for its planes. The airline is experimenting using a mixture of 20% biofuel and 80% conventional jet fuel to power its fleet. The source of the ‘green’ fuel is sustainable and will not displace food crops. Our deep appreciation to Virgin Atlantic for your continuous effort on green energy! May Heaven grant you with much success in your innovative developments to benefit the world and her air travelers.

Newer Hybrid Buses Cheaper To Operate

Hybrid buses save energy and money too. A recent report by the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Lab says that new hybrid buses cost 40% less to maintain and 24% less to drive than previous models. More than 1,000 such buses are running in San Francisco, Toronto, and New York City, which has the largest hybrid bus fleet in the world. Way to go, New York, Toronto and San Francisco! May more cities around the world make the transition to hybrid public transit for the health of the economy and our environment.

Kudos and many thanks, EA Logistics, for utilizing such great program to help mitigate CO2 emissions. May God bless our planet with more and more green business practices.

Generators are causing damage to environment

Power outages mean it’s time to switch to cleaner fuels. With South Africa being the largest carbon dioxide emitter in Africa, Dr. Morne du Plessis, head of the World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa, said that the country’s power outages actually cause even more damage to the environment. This is because the petrol generators emit greenhouse gases also. Dr. du Pleissis urged South Africa to consider alternatives to coal and oil, saying “we can’t continue as we are now.” Dr. du Plessis, we greatly appreciate you for providing the truth of power outages and voicing the importance of using renewable energy. May we all adopt sustainable lifestyle changes to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet.

Corn ethanol worse than gasoline

Converting forest lands for biofuel may be more harmful to the environment. Researchers are saying that a widespread use of corn-based ethanol may produce double the greenhouse gas emissions when factoring in the loss of carbon-absorbing forests and vegetation. The study encouraged acquiring ethanol instead from waste products, so that trees can be protected. Our thankfulness, scientists, for reminding us of the importance of protecting our forests and vegetation for a healthier planet. May we all take into careful consideration to develop green technology that respects and benefits Mother Earth.

California proposes a global-warming fee on businesses

Greenhouse gas emission fees proposed in California. Air pollution regulators in California’s Bay Area in the US are proposing annual fees for all businesses based on the amount of carbon emission they produce. This precedent-setting initiative would require companies to pay 4.2 cents for every metric ton of carbon dioxide they produce. The funds generated would go toward the district’s global warming reduction programs. Right on, California! Thank you and God bless your leadership in stepping greenly forward to help reverse the effects global warming.

‘Agricultural regions to bear the brunt of global warming’

Agricultural and coastal areas bear the brunt of global warming. At a recent seminar on climate change held in Chandigarh, India, Shekhar Singh, former environmental advisor to the Planning Commission of India, said that global warming will take its greatest toll on coastal and farming communities. Speaking of the agriculturally dependant Punjab state, he said, “Even a slight rise in global temperature will adversely affect the snow-fed rivers of the state resulting in a fall in agricultural production by 15-20%.” Our sincerest thank you, Mr. Singh, for bringing forward this important information. May Heaven abundantly bless all the environmental efforts around the globe for a quick change to a greener world.

Global Warming Threatens Walrus

The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) files a petition with US Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the Pacific walrus. The Pacific walrus is adapted for life on Arctic sea ice, which is quickly disappearing because of global warming. Mr. Shaye (pronunciation: Shy a) Wolf, a biologist with the CBD, said, “With rapid action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, combined with a moratorium on new oil and gas development and shipping routes in the Arctic, we can still save the Pacific walrus, the polar bear, and the Arctic ecosystem. But the window of opportunity to act is closing rapidly.” We extend our gratitude, Center for Biological Diversity, for your work to save the Pacific Walrus and other amazing creatures from extinction due to global warming. We pray for the success of your mission to save precious lives.
