Vegetarianism is the natural and quickest way to restore Earth’s balance.
It is well established that global warming is the result of human activities. Remarkably, and as Supreme Master Ching Hai has expressed, our return to a peaceful way of life with other humans as well as animals, will also have a beneficial effect on our environment. Supreme Master Ching Hai elaborated on this during a recent videoconference with our Association members in San Jose, California, USA.

(F): How can we restore the ice back to its natural order if we’re able to stop global warming, and how long will it take if it’s possible? Thank you.
Supreme Master Ching Hai : If all humans are vegetarian, then the karmic retribution will change, and nature will restore its balance automatically; it will be slow or quick. It’s up to us. Suppose the people are slow to become vegetarian, and we take too slow action, then maybe 2 years; that means only 100 weeks. And the quicker one will be 2 months; that means 8 weeks. We will see the change almost immediately.

California is likely to experience increased heat waves.
A study by US scientists Norman Miller from the University of California and Katharine Hayhoe from the Texas Tech University warns that days with heat waves in major Californian cities are likely to double or quadruple. This also means greater demand for and resulting shortages of electricity as air-conditioners will be used significantly more, which in turn produces more greenhouse gases to further warm the atmosphere if powered by fossil fuels. This trend is also expected in other states, such as Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Our sincere appreciation, esteemed US researchers, for offering this awakening through a glimpse into an undesirable future. With Heaven’s grace, may we all take steps to create cool, green options for ourselves and our treasured planet.

In a recent radio broadcast of the UK’s “The Two Degrees Show” with special topic “Climate Code Red,” guest speakers Dr. Stuart Parkinson from Scientists for Global Responsibility and Richard Hawkins of the Public Interest Research Center highlighted the urgency of our global warming situation, citing figures from the IPCC and NASA scientist Dr. James Hansen.
Saying that some tipping points cautioned by Dr. Hansen in 2005 have already been passed, the guests stated that unless the strongest measures of carbon reduction are implemented, Earth and humanity may very quickly reach a point of no return. For example, the Arctic may be ice-free by 2013, 70 years ahead of IPCC estimations.
The ice-free open water would be left to absorb 90 percent of the sun’s heat. This condition would then lead to further rising sea levels and dangerously warmer climates, melting permafrost and releasing methane. In fact, the two degree Celsius rise in temperatures referred to in the radio show’s title as the allowable temperature increase is actually no longer a safe estimate, because carbon-cycle feedbacks will cause temperature increases of 3-4 degrees. Thus, current goals such as 60-80% carbon reductions by the year 2050 are not enough. Dr. Parkinson suggested that responsible measures are needed to more quickly halt greenhouse gases.
