Supreme Master Ching Hai speaks as guest on East Coast FM Radio.

Recently, East Coast FM Radio, one of the most popular radio stations in Ireland, invited Supreme Master Ching Hai as a guest to share with listeners her thoughts on vegetarianism versus the meat diet. East Coast FM’s program on Sunday night is co-hosted by Louise Kings and The Sandman and covers topics that are holistic, spiritual and informative for a nationwide and international audience.


The following is an excerpt from the phone interview with Supreme Master Ching Hai.

Louise Kings (F): Supreme Master this month in August in Ireland, there was a salmonella scare and there was a nationwide recall of meat products from one of the country’s biggest sandwich chains. In fact these recalls seem to be coming more and more frequent, we read about them almost every day.

Somewhere in the world meat is being recalled due to e coli or salmonella poisoning or some other disease. It seems that if we eat meat it’s not only affecting the environment but we’re actually taking risks with our own health. Why do you feel that we’re seeing more and more of these recalls?

Supreme Master Ching Hai: Well Madam, clearly it is a warning sign, as Heaven’s last resort to sound an alarming bell. We must listen, and now. The animals, they are also trying to help waken up human race by sacrificing their lives.

Anyone who can communicate with the animals by telepathy would confirm my view on this. Now please if anyone is listening, we must stop all acts of harming and killing, hurting humans or other species, stop damaging the environment and live simple life, as simple as possible according to our resources. More in tune with nature, live and let all live, so that our lives may be spared and blessed with happiness.

Amazon deforestation increases 69 percent due to demand for meat. 

The National Institute for Space Research, which monitors Amazonian deforestation, has reported that in the one year period between August 2007 and August 2008, over 4,820 square kilometers of the Amazon have been lost. The main causes were cited as being an increased demand for beef and soy. The US Department of Agriculture reports that 74 percent of global soy crops are used as feed for animals. 

We appreciate the efforts of Brazil and elsewhere to curb deforestation.  We also pray that people the world over recognize the destructive effects of meat production and change to a planet-saving, plant-based diet.

Worldwide decline in firefly populations.

 Urban sprawl and industrial pollution are the main factors identified in the recent disappearance of this evening-illuminated insect. Because of their size and short life span, firefly populations are difficult to study, and researchers are utilizing websites of firefly enthusiasts to report on any differences in their local firefly populations.
 
Preecha Jiabyu, a boat rower in Ban Lomtuan, Thailand who takes tourists to see the fireflies along the Mae Klong River said, “The firefly populations have dropped 70 percent in the past three years. It's sad. They were a symbol of our city.”

We are appreciative of all efforts to document the tiny firefly’s decline. We pray all global citizens will heed  this as yet another signal from Nature and realize the need to act now in halting climate change.

Fast-paced thunderstorms cause extensive damage in USA’s southwest.

The storms, which dropped 1.5 inches of rain and three-quarter inch hail with 100 mph winds in the Phoenix, Arizona area, damaged aircraft and collapsed a brand-new college football facility. The Sky Harbor International Airport had to be temporarily shut down as terminals, cargo areas, jetways and aircrafts suffered damages, leaving around 500 travelers to spend the night at the airport. 
We pray for the quick recovery of the affected areas.  May catastrophes such as these be alleviated through our gentler steps on the planet.
