Organic farming 'could feed Africa'

Organic farming offers benefits to Africa. A recent study conducted by the United Nations has concluded that organic farming methods could be the best way for the African continent to achieve abundance and food security.

An analysis of 114 growing projects throughout 24 countries found that yields more than doubled with the use of organic practices, which also bring environmental benefits such as improved soil fertility, better retention of water and resistance to drought.

A green thumbs up, United Nations and all growers in Africa, for these encouraging findings. Blessed be the splendid African people to flourish in natural abundance and plenty.

Quiet wind turbine provides sustainable energy for homes and businesses in USA

.
A collaboration between Cascade Engineering of Michigan, USA and Renewable Devices of Scotland has resulted in the Swift wind turbine, a two-meter wind energy generator designed for rooftop mounting in locations with average winds. The Swift features five blades surrounded by a ring, which reduces the operating sound to 35 decibels and lowers vibration. The turbine’s two fins also continually re-direct it to face the wind for maximum energy generation.

The turbine can generate some 2,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year. Renewable Devices and Cascade Engineering, a tip of the hat for this wind energy innovation! We look forward to seeing the Swift and other similar inspirations in widespread use for the sustainable benefit of all.

IPCC Dr. Lučka Kajfež-Bogataj: Concern for the environment goes through the stomach!

Slovenian climatologist advocates for going meat-free. In an article in the Slovenian newspaper Večer, Dr. Lučka Kajfež-Bogataj, a member of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, cites factory farming’s role in contributing to 90% of the destruction of tropical rainforests.

He went on to say that the raising of meat, when compared to vegetable cultivation, is vastly inefficient in terms of water and land use. Dr. Kajfež-Bogataj wrote, “If we truly wish to demonstrate our willingness to change our behavior in favor of the environment and our climate, it is not enough to practice behind the steering wheel, to turn down the thermostats and to install solar systems. We also need to start with the food on our plates.” Our heartfelt appreciation, Dr. Kajfež-Bogataj for this clear message. May many readers be awakened to the importance of eliminating meat consumption to save our planet.

Charles' rainforest drive in Brunei
The Prince of Wales advocates for rainforests in Brunei. As part of his tour of the Far East, Prince Charles visited Brunei to spread the message on the need to save rainforests. In a talk at the University of Brunei Darussalam, His Royal Highness explained that his Prince’s Rainforest Project is seeking to determine the proper amount of funding that will be sufficient for countries with rainforests to preserve their natural treasures, rather than clear them. During his visit, Prince Charles also accompanied Brunei’s Crown Prince, Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah to the nation’s Badas Forest Reserve to learn about other initiatives in place for rainforest protection. We respectfully admire your dedication to saving the planet’s valuable forests, Your Royal Highness! May your sincere involvement be an inspiration to leaders worldwide in their efforts to safeguard these vital lungs of our Earth.
