British beach is lost to the sea. Conservation organization the National Trust has officially abandoned Studland Beach, one of England’s most famous beaches, to be consumed by the sea. Over the past 25 years, the ocean has taken 300 feet of beach, causing houses to be moved several times, while structures put in place to stem the erosion have been washed away. The National Trust has thus decided to allow the beach’s continued deterioration and instead develop other areas for the region’s wildlife. Our appreciation, National Trust, for your caring actions in facing this global warming loss. May humanity swiftly awaken to alarming signals such as these for the continued sustenance of life across our beautiful globe.
On August 17, 2008, Supreme Master Ching Hai spoke with our Association members in Australia regarding the dangerous effects resulting from climate change.
Supreme Master Ching Hai: If the ice melts, the coastal area at least will have the most impact of it. But it’s not only the water rising that we are worried about, it’s the gas, the hydrogen sulphide, and the methane and all kinds of gas in the ocean. And also it will melt more ice if the methane coming out from the permafrost, etc, etc. And from the ocean as well and from all the livestock animal raising. And it keeps adding together, and it would stay in the atmosphere for a long time. And once the planet is destroyed, it will look like Mars. It will be like Mars, it’s un-inhabitable.
And it takes millions of years, sometimes hundreds of millions of years until any planet recovers, if it recovers at all. If there is a purpose to recover at all. So we have to change it. The quicker we change, the better, and then we can halt the climate change. And we can restore the planet very quickly, in no time. But if we don’t, then the planet will also be destroyed quickly and in no time. Let’s hope we will change the course of the disaster. I feel positive that people will change; the majority of people will change. And I only need 2/3 of the population of the planet that changes, then we can save the world and repair the planet.
We’re In For Stormy Weather/By Ban Ki-MoonUN chief urges global action on climate change. In an address published in Newsweek magazine’s last issue of 2008, United Nations Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon highlighted the critical importance of sufficient and quick action worldwide to reverse global warming. Citing a 3 percent rise in carbon dioxide emissions in 2007 along with an unprecedented number of extreme weather events and extinctions of species in 2008, the Secretary-general said it is clear that more ambitious measures are needed to avoid irreversible consequences to our planet’s ecosystem and climate. Secretary-general Ban, we express our gratitude and support for your noble leadership in speaking out on the urgent state of our planet. Let us all strive now through effective green practices to restore the natural order and flourishing of our environment.
During an international seminar in August 2008, in answer to a question regarding the natural disasters, Supreme Master Ching Hai had answered as follows:
Supreme Master Ching Hai: Nowadays the disasters are more frequent than ever. If it’s not earthquake, then it is storm, typhoon, drought. This is even more permanent disaster than just earthquake, which lasts not long. The bad karma has to be paid. If the people turn to noble lifestyle, just even be vegetarian to save the planet, to save the animals, that’s enough to save them also.
Soot reduction 'could help to stop global warming'NASA recommends soot reduction to help cool the planet. Recent research by the US National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) indicates that reduction of the black carbon particles comprising soot would reduce respiratory illnesses and fatalities as well as cool the planet. Black carbon, which is released from burning fossil fuels, wood or vegetation, is carried through the wind as far as the poles, where the dark color absorbs heat and speeds the melting of ice. In an interview with Supreme Master Television, leading climatologist Dr. James Hansen, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), emphasized the need to drastically reduce fossil fuel usage.

Dr. Hansen(m): If you just look at how much carbon there is in oil, gas and coal, you see that the real, biggest problem in the long run is coal and because carbon dioxide has a lifetime so long and a large fraction of it stays in the air for more than a thousand years. So we simply cannot burn all the fossil fuels. It doesn’t help to slow down the rate at which you burn them a little. We have to make real changes. It can’t be a case of setting a goal of 80% reduction by 2050.

To help citizens conserve both water and finances, the city of Ottawa has been distributing free Residential Indoor Water Efficiency Kits. With such items included as low-flow showerheads that can help save up to 17 cubic meters of water per year, the city hopes to reduce production at two water purification plants by 50 percent.
