Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Cambodia. At the end of September, typhoon Ketsana made landfall in Cambodia, claiming 43 lives. Another 67 people suffered injuries and 66,000 families were affected as more than 10,000 homes were damaged, with the province of Kampong Thom being among the hardest-hit.
On September 30, Supreme Master Ching Hai requested that our native or nearby Association members go to help and comfort those most in need. Conveying her condolences, as well as much sorrow and prayers, she also donated US$10,000 in aid, which could acquire US$235,000 in emergency items if bought in the United States, based on Cambodia’s cost of living.
On October 20, 2009, covering their own expenses, our Association’s relief team from Âu Lạc (Vietnam) traveled to Kampong Thom province. There, they distributed over 300 relief packages containing food, shelter materials and monetary aid, as well as informative SOS flyers.
The provincial chief expressed the deep gratitude of the Cambodian government and people to Master, wishing her much health and wellness. The relief recipients also conveyed their appreciation.
VOICE:After that, the relief team visited the orphanages of the province as well as the Sài Gòn Bridge orphanage in the nation’s capital of Phnom Penh, bringing more relief packages.
VOICE: We are grateful for Supreme Master Ching Hai’s benevolence, which comforts the distressed, and for our Association’s relief team diligent endeavors. With the grace of the Providence, may the Cambodian people quickly recover the regularity of their daily lives as we pray for the lessening of such events through our greater care extended toward each other and the environment.
