At least twelve customers became ill with the O-157 strain of E. coli bacteria after eating beefsteak at a Japanese restaurant chain. The latest case of infection, which can cause kidney damage and even death, involved a young elementary school student in Okayama Prefecture, with affected individuals in seven other prefectures that included Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. The restaurant chain subsequently closed all of its locations to protect the public.

We are saddened to hear about this foodborne illness that has caused much suffering to all involved. Our prayers for everyone’s soon recovery and that humanity quickly realizes the optimal solution of leaving meats and other animal products aside in favor of wholesome, delicious vegan fare.
