In animal news, dolphins’ calving success is enhanced by having friends and relatives who are good mothers. This conclusion was ascertained from a study which combined more than 25 years of observation of dolphins with over 10 years of data about the mammals’ genetic relationship with each other. The research was conducted by Dr. Bill Sherwin and team from the University of New South Wales School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences in Australia and Dr. Michael Krützen and colleagues from the University of Zurich in Switzerland.
