Živinoreja je eden izmed glavnih krivcev za krčenje gozdov.4(UN FAO, 2006)
Od 90. let prejšnjega stoletja je bilo približno 90% amazonskih gozdov posekanih zaradi pridobivanja zemljišča za pašo živine in pridelovanja krme za živino.5
V Avstraliji je bilo v obdobju dvajsetih let 91% vseh posekanih gozdov namenjenih za pašo živine.6(nedavno poročilo o 20-letni študiji, ki jo je vodil g. Gerald Bisshop iz uprave Queenslanda, upokojeni glavni znanstvenik Oddelka Queenslanda za upravljanje okolja in naravnih virov)
DEZERTIFIKACIJA
Vzroka za dezertifikacijo (širjenje puščave) sta prekomerna paša in širitev površin, namenjenih za pridelovanje krme za živino.7

Živinoreja povzroča več kot 50% vse erozije zemlje na svetu, ta pa povzroča dezertifikacijo.8
Letno je zaradi neustrezne organizacije poljedelstva, podnebnih sprememb in paše živine uničenih približno 75 milijard ton rodovitne zemlje. Samo v Združenih državah je 54% zemljišč za pašo preveč naseljenih, zaradi česar se letno uniči več kot 100 ton rodovitne zemlje na hektar.9

Leta 2010 so iz Kitajske, Čada, Avstralije, Mongolije in drugih držav poročali o hudih sušah, ki jih paša živine še poslabša.
