Precedents of overcoming crisis in other planets.

Though we may be facing the first planetary crisis in our times, it is not the first in the universe. Supreme Master Ching Hai revealed in the recent videoconference with our Association members in Seattle, Washington, USA how other planets have dealt with similar situations.

 (e): Other planets have faced global warming crisis, the same as ours. For the planets that were able to halt global warming, what in particular did they do?

Supreme Master Ching Hai : The same, like what I’m telling you. Return to the original loving and virtuous self. Go veg, go green, and pray. Meditate.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: They have to openly endorse this and make people realize that it is urgent to save the planet by going vegetarian and by adopting a green policy. The government, the media, the powerful people, the people who can make decisions and influence people, they have to help.

VOICE: We are encouraged and glad to know of cases in which others were able to overcome and triumph through their diligent and virtuous efforts. Degraded land area is larger than expected. Based on recent satellite imaging,

the United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported that 24 percent of all land surface around the globe has been depleted in quality and crop-growing capability. This is significantly more than the 10 to 20 percent previously reported. Among the causes of soil degradation are excessive cultivation from farming and activities such as cattle grazing, which cause soil erosion. This results in biodiversity decline as well as reduced crop yields, with farmers sometimes being forced to relocate. China, Argentina, and South Africa have been increasingly affected in recent years.

Researchers calculate probabilities for end-of-summer Arctic sea ice.

Scientists from Germany’s Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research have modeled the expected sea ice coverage for September 2008. Their findings, which they say are being made with a nearly 100 percent probability of being accurate, are that the ice remaining at the end of summer 2008 will be less than the second lowest measured ever, which was in 2005. A larger amount of ice loss took place in 2007. The German scientists’ calculations ar ebeing presented as part of an international scientific contest, with a goal of formulating the most exact predictions for Arctic sea ice loss.
