A new study by the National Drug and Alcohol Research Center at the University of New South Wales in Australia has found that media reports on illicit drugs are effective in steering youth clear of their harms.

In a survey of nearly 2,300 persons aged 16–24, the researchers discovered that certain types of media messages could have a significant impact, with lead scientist Dr. Caitlin Hughes saying that the most influential were ones that factually described the drugs’ adverse health or social effects.

Thank you Dr. Hughes and associates at the University of New South Wales for sharing the benefits of media in helping youths remain drug-free. May we support journalists more and more in conveying such truthful messages that preserve clear-minded happiness and save lives.
