The End of Food author concludes eating meat is a moral issue.

Author Paul Roberts, whose first book “The End of Oil” accurately predicted some of the situations we are seeing today, has now written “The End of Food,” which states that due to global warming, we are coming to the end of inexpensive food and to a point where food scarcity is a reality. He also believes that eating meat is a moral dilemma, since it consumes many more resources to produce and thus fails to compensate for the hunger being experienced by others in the world. We congratulate you on your new book, Mr. Roberts, and thank you for helping us understand the considerations of food production as we face the effects of climate change. May we act together now in sharing knowledge and resources, to benefit global brethren as well as ourselves.

Food crisis talks set to begin

LAES member states meet to find food crisis solutions. Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (LAES) leaders are seeking to identify and address root causes of the current food crisis that have led to soaring food prices over the past three years. LAES President Geronimo Cardozo stated that the attendees also sought to reach a unified position prior to the upcoming UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s summit convening on the food crisis in Rome, Italy this week. We send our best wishes all participants for your efforts to find innovative new approaches to ensure all people can be fed. May all across the globe be graced with adequate nourishment.

White House: Humans “Very Likely” Causing Warming

White House report states human-induced climate change is a serious threat. A report just published by top scientific advisors to US President George Bush affirms the high likelihood of a human-caused global warming. The report also predicts devastation to US crops and forests, increased disease, and inundation of US coastal lands by rising sea levels.

Philip Clapp, deputy managing director of the Pew Environmental Group, summed up the message of the report as he stated, “Global warming is already having clear impacts in the United States, and the impacts are going to get worse even with the most aggressive action to cut emissions.” We thank the authors for this clarifying and alarming report. Our appreciation to all who are taking steps to address this most pressing issue of our times. We pray that the US and other governments respond quickly so that our world is able to continue sustaining life for generations to come.

'Gangotri glacier shrinking due to global warming'

India’s Himachal Pradesh state addresses major glacier shrinkage. Climate change has caused the temperature in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to rise by a full degree Celsius since 1970. As a result, the Gangotri and Khumbu glaciers have been found to be shrinking at an alarming rate. In response, State Environment Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has launched a program for individual state departments to help stop climate change by auditing and reducing their use of electricity, water and vehicular fuel. One energy-saving practice that will be implemented statewide is the installation of compact fluorescent lights in all government offices. We tip our hats, Your Excellency and Himachal Pradesh state for your green initiative to protect these magnificent glaciers through conservation practices. May we all adopt such changes within our daily lives to stabilize the conditions of global warming on our Earth.

RI First Lady awarded UN environment award

UN award conferred to Indonesian First Lady. First Lady of Indonesia Kristiani Herrawati Bambang Yudhoyono was recognized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for her work in a project in which the women of Indonesia simultaneously planted one million trees in one day across the country. First Lady Yudhoyono was instrumental in the coordination of the mass planting, which was intended to offset global warming through forest restoration. Our heartfelt congratulations, Mrs. Yudhoyono, on this well-deserved recognition. May Allah bless your shining example in demonstrating just how much can be done in one day to help curb climate change and safeguard a future for our planet.
