Arctic melt impact is far reaching.

At the International Arctic Change conference in Quebec City, Canada, over 1,000 scientists and indigenous representatives from 16 countries met to discuss the future as ice decreases in the Arctic. Oceanographer Dr. David Carlson, Director of the International Polar Year program office, said the complete loss of Arctic ice will have enormous effects on climate and weather patterns, with melting permafrost in the region already noted to be damaging buildings and requiring adaptive changes in the indigenous people’s lives.

Our thankfulness, International Arctic Change conference participants, for sharing this vital information about the consequences of a warming planet. Blessed be our world in opting for such effective practices as the plant-based diet to allow the Earth to continue sustaining all life.

Supreme Master Ching Hai : If the ice melts, the coastal area at least will have the most impact of it. But it’s not only the water rising that we are worried about, it’s the gas, the hydrogen sulphide, and the methane and all kinds of gas in the ocean. And also it will melt more ice if the methane coming out from the permafrost, etc, etc. And from the ocean as well and from all the livestock animal raising. And it keeps adding together, and it would stay in the atmosphere for a long time. And once the planet is destroyed, it will look like Mars.

It will be like Mars, it’s un-inhabitable. And it takes millions of years, sometimes hundreds of millions of years until any planet recovers, if it recovers at all. If there is a purpose to recover at all. So we have to change it. The quicker we change, the better, and then we can halt the climate change. And we can restore the planet very quickly, in no time.

But if we don’t, then the planet will also be destroyed quickly and in no time. Let’s hope we will change the course of the disaster. I feel positive that people will change. Not only in Australia that we will avoid disaster, but everywhere in the world. I feel people will change; the majority of people will change. And I only need 2/3 of the population of the planet that changes, then we can save the world and repair the planet. 
 

140 Megawatt solar unit to be installed in Kuraimat

Egypt on course with thermal-solar power project. Minister of Electricity and Energy, Hassan Yunis, announced on Saturday that the first unit of a US$220 million 140-Megawatt thermal-solar power plant will be installed in Kuraimat, Egypt. With its launch expected in October 2010, the plant is being co-funded by a US$50 million donation from the US-based Global Environment Facility as well as a US$170 million low-interest loan from Japan. Kudos Your Excellency and Egypt for this wonderful green initiative to lighten your nation's carbon footprint! May clean, sustainable energy ventures such as these flourish across the globe.

Warming waters present more problems for fish.

Dr. Francesc Piferrer of the Barcelona, Spain’s Marine Scientist Institute is the lead author of a report on how water temperature determines the gender of ocean fish. His study found that an increase of 4 degrees Celsius, as predicted by the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change, increased the proportion of the males of certain fish species to between 65 and 98 percent, thus bringing on their likely demise. Dr. Piferrer and the Marine Scientist Institute, we thank you this crucial information on the vulnerability of ocean species. May our understanding motivate us to act with respect and care towards our fragile ecosystems.
