Coral springs back from tsunami

Coral reefs are recovering after tsunami. The Wildlife Conservation Society reports that coral reefs are recovering well in the Indian Ocean four years after a tsunami devastated the area. Some local communities have voluntarily halted destructive fishing practices and sent crews to re-plant coral instead. Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, an oceanic expert from the University of Queensland in Australia explained that coral reefs have an amazing ability to recover under natural circumstances if damaging human activities are not interfering. Thank you for this wonderful news, Wildlife Conservation Society! What a fine example of the resiliency of nature and a great inspiration for humankind. Let us give all due respect and support to the revitalization of our precious ecosystems.

Successful New Zealand flight with plant fuel power.

Air New Zealand’s cooperative endeavor with aircraft manufacturer Boeing, engine producer Rolls-Royce and biofuel specialist UOP has resulted in the completion of a 2-hour test flight on a 50/50 mix of jatropha plant fuel and standard A1 jet fuel. The cleaner-burning jatropha is easily grown and does not compete with food crops. Air New Zealand considers this flight a milestone toward its goal of becoming the top environmentally sustainable airline. Hats off, Air New Zealand, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, and UOP for these exciting advancements in green aviation! We look forward to evermore expanding eco-friendly travels in the skies.
